Children and families

Color My World” is a psychosocial recovery project for children and families affected by the war in Ukraine, delivered through day and residential camps. The program combines psychological support, creative expression, safe socialization, family sessions, and post-camp follow-up care. The project serves internally displaced children, military families, residents of frontline areas, and other vulnerable groups.

…Olha survived the nightmare of domestic abuse, which continued even during her pregnancy. Unable to endure the violence any longer, she barely managed to escape her home, finding herself on the street without food, money, warm clothes, or basic essentials.
She is raising her 3-year-old son, Davyd. The ongoing psychological trauma from domestic violence, combined with the terrifying sounds of sirens and explosions from the war, has left deep wounds: Davyd is now terrified of the dark and loud noises.
Due to extreme financial hardship, Olha and her son have never been able to take a vacation or undergo much-needed rehabilitation. When she heard that someone wanted to arrange a restful getaway for them, she was moved to tears of joy and deep gratitude…

By supporting this project, donors do more than just help fund a camp. They empower a child to regain a sense of safety, help a family restore emotional closeness, and enable a community to build resilience in a time of war.

The Challenge We Address

The full-scale war has subjected both children and adults to prolonged, chronic stress. In our foundation’s work, we see this daily through:

  • High anxiety and fears in children
  • Emotional exhaustion among parents
  • Communication struggles and family conflicts
  • Loss of safety and control over their lives
  • Difficulties with adaptation, social interaction, and learning

Target Groups

We focus our support on those who need it most:

  • Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) children
  • Children of military personnel, veterans, and fallen defenders
  • Children and families from frontline communities
  • Families who experienced evacuation, loss of home, or displacement from their community
  • Families facing severe life hardships.

The program combines psychosocial support, creative practices, safe socialization, non-formal education, family sessions, physical activity, and self-regulation techniques. Its goal is to help children and families transition from chronic stress, fear, and exhaustion to a state of safety, empowerment, connectedness, and emotional resilience.

Project Format

Day Camps
Organized locally within communities without requiring participants to leave their home areas. This accessible format provides rapid psychosocial support, allowing us to reach a large number of children while involving parents in targeted sessions.

Residential Camps
5-day intensive programs hosted in a safe environment away from participants’ regular surroundings. This format enables deeper stress reduction, rebuilds family bonds, and provides comprehensive psychosocial support for both children and adults.
